Day 2 of launch week!
My latest project has been to construct a Wisdom Deck. Over the last 7 years I’ve read a lot of books about dog behaviour and training and it’s always bugged me that I sporadically write reams of notes and subsequently fail to distill them into any usable form. Inspired by Oracle cards I came up with the idea of preparing a deck of dog training flash cards (I originally had grand plans for all sort of elaborate and interesting artwork for the backs of the cards but I scaled that back in the interests of proper useful content, and - well - actually ever finishing the project!), which could serve as inspiration for anyone interested in improving both their understanding of and relationship with their dog, and their dog’s behaviour. Though they may look pretty simple, they were quite a mission to design and get right and I want to put a huge shout of to Kaylee Nicholls at MATM (Marketing At The Mill Ltd) who’s brilliant. She’s the person to contact if you want to create your own copycat deck, or indeed any other cleverly designed and bespoke printed material.
If you’re into training you’ll already be familiar with some of these pieces of advice. They’re obviously not all things I came up with single-handedly - they’re tried and tested guidance and serve as a potentially game-changing collection of concepts and approaches to try out. The content is distilled from 7 years worth of book reading and online and in person learning from others as well as from my own handling experience with dogs. The sources are too infinite to credit, but I am duly infinitely grateful to each and every source that I have gleaned anything useful from. Many of the things, though obvious to me now with oodles of hindsight and a lot of experience, were personal ‘scales from the eyes’ moments and that’s why I had this yen to assimilate and share them in some sort of easy access form. I really hope that they will help other people (particularly those with ‘tricky’ dogs) in their dog training journey.
I will have some prototypes available soon. They would make an excellent gift for a new dog ‘parent’ or any of the dog lovers in your life. I will also be producing them in some sort of e-format. In case of interest for either just email me at info@nomadthief.com
Here’s 3 from the start of the deck to give you a taster:
This is such a brilliant, brilliant idea! I love it!
