Dear Reader,
As some of you may know, I’m (endlessly) studying to be a canine behaviourist / dog trainer. And yes, I'm only too well aware that our very own Jackson is pretty much a disastrous, wayward yob BUT in my defence, every good dog trainer I know has a story about the loon-dog they learned from / on. Not only this but he is as magnificent as he is unruly! And though the struggle of living with a reactive dog with crippling separation anxiety has been all too real at times yet, I couldn’t be more grateful. I adore him and he has taught me such a lot, about so many things. The fallout from us getting him will undoubtedly feature in some of the writings on my substack.
We don't have children and (not especially therefore) dogs are a huge part of my life, so I hope you don't think me arrogant for considering myself something of an expert. Why not let me and my passion for understanding them and how their not so little brains work help you with your canine cohorts? After all, we are all time-poor and need to outsource where we can - and happier, more satisfied dogs equate to calmer, happier households.
DOGS AND SOCIETY launch week is happening next week, on my substack. In case you haven't heard of it, SUBSTACK is the hot new(ish) platform, with no ads and no algorithms. What's not to like! It's the place to be for writers and creatives, and a really lovely place it is too. Every day during launch week (starting on Friday 27th May) I'll be posting a writerly snippet about something dog-related.
What else will be on the substack? Excerpts from my book/s:
- Dogs of London (a fictional novel for adults, self-published in November 2021. 100% of the proceeds go to dog charities.)
- The Watcher
- Love and Difficult Being(s)
The Watcher and Love and Difficult Being(s) are not about dogs and they will both be finished around the end of the year.
Finally, on the back of everything I’ve gleaned and found helpful over the last 8 years, I’m working hard on two products.
The Dog Training Wisdom Deck will be launching next month. It’s a thoughtful tool that will greatly facilitate your training and interaction with dogs. Let the right piece of guidance reach you just when you need it and use the cards over and over again, rather than forgetting to refer to dog training books or having to sift through the overwhelming amount of resources online.
Its partner deck, the Dog Training Practical Exercises Deck, will be available in October. It will be supported by video content of me and my own dogs Stevie and Jackson as well as guest dogs. It will give you specific exercises to train, and how. From general life skills exercises to those tailored to reactive dogs, from brain training to enrichment, from loose lead walking to fun tricks, from impulse control and manners building exercises to ideas for interactive play, from whistle training drills to engagement and disengagement exercises - you name it, the Practical Exercises Deck has it covered.
Why not keep an eye on next week’s launch posts and see if my substack has something to offer you?
Hope it appeals!
Emma
